(Reuters) – Coinbase International Inc is dealing with a U.S. Securities and Change Fee (SEC) probe into whether or not it improperly let People commerce digital property that ought to have been registered as securities, Bloomberg Information reported on Monday.
The probe by the SEC’s enforcement unit predates the company’s investigation into an alleged insider buying and selling scheme that was revealed final week, as per the report.
U.S. prosecutors in Manhattan final week charged a former product supervisor at Coinbase and two others with wire fraud within the first insider buying and selling case involving cryptocurrency.
The SEC’s scrutiny of Coinbase has elevated because the platform expanded the variety of tokens through which it affords buying and selling, the report added, citing two sources.
Coinbase and the SEC didn’t instantly reply to a Reuters’ request for remark.
