The incident occurred shortly after four a.m. ET, when the person drove his automotive right into a barricade at East Capitol Road and Second Road. He then exited his automotive, which turned “engulfed in flames,” and fired a number of pictures into the air, Capitol Police mentioned in a press release.

He then fatally shot himself when authorities approached him. There have been no further accidents and the person’s identify was not instantly launched, in accordance with the assertion.

“Right now, it doesn’t seem the person was concentrating on any Members of Congress, who’re on recess, and it doesn’t seem officers fired their weapons,” the assertion learn. “Our investigators are trying into the person’s background.”

DC’s Metropolitan Police Division is dealing with the dying investigation, the assertion mentioned.
