Metropolis of Huntington donates to Going through Starvation Foodbank

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Huntington Mayor Steve Williams joined different metropolis leaders Wednesday to current a big contribution to the Going through Starvation Foodbank.

The $500,000 donation was proposed by Huntington Mayor Steve Williams and authorized by Metropolis Council.

The funds got here from the Metropolis of Huntington’s basic fund, officers say.

Mayor Williams says his objective is to contribute $1 million to the Going through Starvation Foodbank by the point he leaves workplace.

The Going through Starvation Foodbank says $1 buys 9 meals.

Metropolis officers say roughly 50 p.c of the Huntington inhabitants is below the poverty threshold or battling low incomes.

The examine presentation kicked off the Metropolis of Huntington’s quarterly Day of Service. Metropolis staff will volunteer on the Foodbank till 5 p.m.
